So, isn’t this a valuable data point on the whole religion thing? If we can get them to promise further divine intervention and then deliver it, they might be able to scientifically prove their religion (at least as much as we can demonstrate the repeatablitiy of any theory). Could be interesting.

This is something I was pondering on my soggy way to work this morning. They certainly went one better than the Christians who attributed the last rounds of floods to divine intervention only after the fact; They made a prediction which was validated. In spades.

Basically, they’ve managed to do what I’ve always challenged religions to do when offended: don’t complain and appeal to special privilege, or go to court and try to silence your critics; go straight to your “powers” and have them sort the problem out for you, and preferably tell the rest of us that you’re going to, so we can be suitably impressed when it works out.

Of course, it doesn’t take much cynicism to point out that predicting rain in the UK is hardly is hardly evidence of a mighty oracular power, especially given that our more mundane weather prediction techniques had forewarned us of a wet summer.

In any case, as you’ve said; an interesting case, although I suspect an anomaly, rather than a useful data-point.

Has it actually achieve what they wanted though has the rain washed away the picture. If not then either they made some screw up in their request and need to pray/magic more clearly or they are being punished for their request perhaps their God is a Simpsons fan. Or maybe their god is a little clumsy … Doh! ;)
