Rods

I’d never heard of Rods before today, and I don’t think I’d really missed out.

Apparently, they’re a long, stick shaped critter that flies about the landscape too fast to be seen by the naked eye, but not too fast to be picked up by cameras. Actually, they’re insects moving fast enough that the comparatively long exposure time of most cameras makes them appear stretched in the image. It’s such obvious nonsense, that I wouldn’t normally post about it. Except for one thing.

Bug Girl linked to Pink Raygun, who gives possibly the most succinct and effective argument on any subject I’ve heard all week:

Have you ever been smacked in the face by a supersonic stick creature? No, you haven’t. Which is probably the first and best argument against the existence of rods.

It also made me laugh, which is why this post exists at all.
