I’m glad to report that the Westboro Baptist Church has been ordered to pay $2.9m in damages
to the father of a marine, who’s funeral they picketed last year. This despite their claims that they were merely exercising their right to express their religion. Remember that that expression involves showing up at people’s funerals and waving signs and chanting about how great it is that they’re dead, and how God hated them. It used to be just gay people they targeted, but now they’re going for soldiers as well, because in their twisted little world soldiers dying in Iraq is proof that God disapproves of the USA’s tolerance of homosexuality.

Make no mistake, Phelps and his hideous little band are nothing but hateful trolls who get a kick out of causing misery in vulnerable people, and I’m tempted to say they should be locked up for harassment, rather than it falling to their victims to persue civil cases. in any case, this is the right outcome, and and we can hope that this will put a stop to this particular “religious
expression”.
