Saudi king appeals for religious tolerance

This made me chuckle.

I particularly liked the line

Critics have dismissed the gathering as a propaganda gimmick by the Saudis who, they say, are not best placed to host a meeting on religious tolerance.

Which might just be the understatement of the week.

  1. Rob Lang says:

    What worried me was:

He said the great conflicts of history were not caused by religion, but by the misinterpretation of religion.

    When the Koran says:

8:12–13,17 Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): “I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.” This because they contended against God and His Apostle: If any contend against God and His Apostle, God is strict in punishment. … It is not ye who slew them; it was God

You can kill in the name of God. It’s not the misinterpretation of religeon, it’s religeon itself. Ruling by fear and an iron fist.

Also, the article doesn’t mention Atheists and Agnostics, which makes up a large part of the Western World these days.
