Yes, you read that right. In the UK is now officially illegal to own the wrong book. A teenager – who may or may not have terrorist sympathies, I don’t think it’s really relevant – has been arrested, tried, and found guilty, not for anything he’s done, or even for anything he’s planned to do, but for “possessing a document likely to be useful for terrorism.” He has yet to be sentenced.
I honestly can’t believe there’s even such a crime. I don’t need to tell you why it’s awful beyond belief that there is.
It’s illegal to say the wrong thing. It’s illegal to read the wrong thing. And if, by chance, you haven’t done either, they can just say they think you’re a terrorist and lock you up anyway.
I feel physically sick just thinking about it.
It’s good to see our government taking a sensible stand on ID. Of course, this is only a start; I doubt this will stop “Truth” in Science, or prevent the DI from trying to gain a foothold on this side of the Atlantic. In fact I can already hear the outraged reports of an undemocratic process forcing the Darwinian hegemony on an unwilling public; indoctrinating the children.
